University system works to thwart hackers

The state university system's computing service building, which is at UNLV, is one of the most protected buildings on campus -- or so local legend goes.

On the first floor, a secured room contains a mother lode of computer servers that provide Internet service to thousands of students and employees. It also contains firewalls and detection devices to prevent hackers from entering the system.
