Iss Positioned In Gartner's Leader Quadrant For Managed Security Services Provider

LONDON — January 11, 2006 — Internet Security Systems (ISS) (NASDAQ: ISSX) today announced that technology research firm, Gartner, Inc., has listed the company in the leader quadrant in its Managed Security Services Provider (MSSP) Magic Quadrant* for the second half of 2005. The Gartner Magic Quadrant is a graphical portrayal of vendor performance in a market segment, including categories for leaders, challengers, visionaries and niche players. It is organised based on companies’ ability to execute in a space, as well as their completeness of vision in the market. According to Gartner, “leaders are vendors who are performing well today, have a clear vision of market direction and are actively building competencies to sustain their leadership position in the market.”

According to the Magic Quadrant report, the managed security services market in North America was $936M in 2004, and Gartner estimates it will reach $1 billion in 2005.¹ Gartner also mentions in the report that growth in the MSSP space is increasingly being driven by more outsourcing of basic security operations, with strong focus on firewall management and intrusion detection monitoring, and growing interest in intrusion prevention functions in the future. With intrusion prevention being its flagship technology, ISS believes it is well-positioned in the MSSP space moving forward.

“We believe our positioning in Gartner’s MSSP Magic Quadrant highlights the satisfaction of our customers and the positive industry perception of our services,” said Rick Miller, vice president of Managed Security Services at Internet Security Systems. “During the second half of 2005, we made multiple advancements in the MSSP market, including our new Vulnerability Management Service and the extension of support and management to additional third-party security products. We feel Gartner’s recognition confirms that these enhancements are meeting the needs of our customers.”

ISS’ Managed Security Services (MSS) offering includes managed firewall and VPN services, managed IDS/IPS, Managed Protection Services, Vulnerability Management Services and consulting. In addition to managing its own security offerings, ISS also supports and manages products from third-party vendors including Check Point, Cisco and Juniper for firewalls and 3Com and McAfee for intrusion prevention, maximising the value of customers’ existing investments.

Also key to ISS’ strong managed services offering is the MSS Customer Portal, which provides customers with a complete, real-time view of their security status 24/7/365. The MSS Customer Portal also seamlessly integrates the unique intelligence of ISS’ X-Force® research and development team, providing customers with expert advice on how to prioritise and alleviate security risks.
