The Middleburgh Telephone Company Chooses Motorola’s Multi-Service Access Platform to Deliver Next Generation Triple-Play Services
Publication date: Wednesday, 04 May 2005

Motorola Multi-Service Access Platform selected as the single platform to integrate voice, video and data services

ARLINGTON HTS., Ill. – May 3, 2005 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) today announced that The Middleburgh Telephone Company will roll out triple-play services in upstate New York using Motorola’s standards-based, end-to-end access solution. By selecting a single, proven platform, Middleburgh Telephone will be able to ensure reliable ongoing service while rolling out an integrated solution for voice, video and data services.

The Motorola Multi-Service Access Platform provides Middleburgh the opportunity to execute a long-term strategy by collapsing Middleburgh Telephone, MIDTEL CABLE TV and MIDTEL NET (ISP) networks into a single multi-service platform. Consolidating the networks will achieve significant cost efficiencies while establishing an opportunity to increase revenue per subscriber by deploying advanced video, voice and high-speed Internet services. New services will include voice, digital video, high-speed data, video-on-demand, pay-per-view, high-definition television and digital video recording.

“Selecting a single multi-service solution will enable us to remain competitive in our markets today and in the future,” said Jason Becker, manager of Broadband Services, Middleburgh Telephone. “We undertook an extensive competitive analysis of the access vendors in the marketplace. From this analysis, coupled with our business model investigation, we determined that Motorola’s Multi-Service Access Platform is the most viable and proven solution. The Motorola platform provides us what we need to execute our strategic triple-play program. It gives us an end-to-end solution that is second to none.”

“Motorola’s solution enables Middleburgh Telephone to streamline its operations,” said Bruce Swail, Motorola vice president and general manager, Wireline Networks. “Motorola is committed to providing end-to-end solutions that support the business needs of our customers regardless of the network infrastructure they have deployed.”

Motorola offers multiple options for delivering applications over a variety of network architectures and access platforms, including xDSL, Fiber-to-the-Premises (FTTP), Fiber-to-the-Node (FTTN), Passive Optical Networks (PON), Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC), and broadband wireless access networks. Motorola’s broad technology portfolio includes digital video, high-speed data, voice services, and consumer premise applications that have been deployed in millions of households globally. The company’s Multi-Service Access Platform delivers over 750,000 streams of digital video over xDSL, representing more than 70 percent of North American telco subscribers.
